The seniors on the women's soccer team said goodbye to their home fans triumphantly Saturday, as the Judges took advantage of a break in conference play to shut out Saint Joseph's College 3-0 in the team's last home game of the season. It was the fourth year in a row that the Judges won their final home game.

Midfielder Lizzie Bremner '08 scored two goals to pace Brandeis, and forward Lisa Kaplin '07 added two assists. The team now stands at 8-3-3 for the season, with only one loss in its past 12 games.

Kaplin and defenders Christine Fulton '09, Brittany Douglass '07 and Melissa Gordon '07 each played to a regular season home crowd for the final time in their careers. Fulton reflected on her emotions after the game.

"It's amazing to think that this was possibly the last time I would ever play on that field," she said. "It was all very bittersweet."

Despite the victory, players and coaches said the team could have played better.

"We definitely were glad to get the win, but we played down to their level and didn't really play our game," Bremner said.

"We possessed and passed the ball pretty well, but we gave ourselves many opportunities to shoot without finishing all of them," coach Denise Dallamora added.

Brandeis struggled to generate opportunities early on, with only one shot on goal in the first 30 minutes. In the 30th minute, Kaplin had a golden opportunity to give Brandeis the lead, but she shot it right at Saint Joseph's freshman goalie Shannon Northrop.

"I think we got away from playing to our feet and playing possession," Fulton said. "We were playing too much kick and run."

Four minutes later, the Judges took the lead for good. Midfielder Melissa Gorenkoff '09 caught the Monks asleep and sped up the sidelines, where she fed Kaplin in front of the goal. Instead of shooting, Kaplin dribbled left, drew the goalie out and dropped it across the box to a streaking Bremner, who easily knocked it into the open net.

"I saw that there was a lot of open space on the weak side, so I ran forward in case there was a long ball or a rebound," Bremner said. "Fortunately, [Kaplin] saw that I was wide open."

"I didn't have a great angle," Kaplin said.

"I saw Lizzie in the center, so I just chipped it over to her."

The Judges controlled possession and added to their lead in the second half. In the 63rd minute,

Bremner took a pass from forward Sarah Jasak '08 and ripped a long shot from outside the box. Northrop tried to tip it high, but instead deflected the ball off the crossbar.

Brandeis extended its lead with a third goal just five minutes later.

Midfielder Meredith Milstein '09 reboounded a Kaplin header and easily knocked it in for her second goal of the season.

The Judges now enter the second half of their University Athletic Association schedule with three key road games to close the season.

They face their toughest test of the season this week, traveling to face ninth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis, the first-place team in the UAA, Friday.

Kaplin said the team will have to play their its game Friday to come away with a victory.

"Against a team like Wash U, we really need to be a 100 percent in every single way," she said.
