An architect in the Boston Phoenix's review of local college campus buildings named the Shapiro Campus Center the "Bad boy on campus" last week.Davis Eisen, an architecture critic and principal at Abacus Architects and Planners, gave Shapiro a B+, and wrote that its "well-done modern architecture" stood out on a campus whose overall architecture isn't cohesive and doesn't reflect a "collegiate spirit."

Eisein wrote that Shapiro, built in 2002, is unlike other law-abiding campus buildings, constructed with regular rows of columns and evenly spaced windows. The campus center breaks the rules with its copper-clad walls, which are fractured to allow light to flow in between them and into the Atrium, providing a much-needed focus for th University.

Other buildings featured in the article include the Davis Museum at Wellesley and the school of law at Boston University.
