After the College Board recently acknowledged errors in grading 4,000 SAT tests, admissions was informed that 50 of those students had applied here, said Dean of Admissions Gil Villanueva.Villanueva reviewed each of the 50 applicants and determined that none of the decisions would be reversed, despite scoring errors.

SAT scores are not all that admissions evaluates applicants by, Villanueva said.

"We're being asked by students, staff and faculty not just to bring SAT scores [to Brandeis]. We're bringing in people."

The New York Times reported March 8 that Pearson Educational Measurement, the company in charge of scoring the SAT tests taken last October, said technical issues and lightly-marked answers caused the errors. Admissions letters were sent out March 18, Villanueva said.

One Brandeis applicant's score increased by 100 points, Villanueva said. But the others applicant's score changes were less extreme, he said.

Decisions on merit-based scholarships were also unaffected by the scoring mistakes, Villanueva said.
