Brandeis and Waltham police are investigating several leads, but no arrests have been made in relation to the Dec. 3 assaults in Massell Quad and the Village, Director of Public Safety Ed Callahan said."We're working with the Waltham police obviously to see if we can find some type of common denominator," Callahan said. "It's an ongoing investigation."

Charlotte Benham '07 reported that she was physically assaulted in her Village residence by a white male early on the morning of Dec. 3. The same night, three female residents of Shapiro Hall in Massell Quad also reported an assailant of similar description entering their rooms about the same time.

Two of the Shapiro residents, who have not been identified, told police the assailant touched their leg before fleeing.

Callahan said investigators have had difficulty identifying a suspect because no witnesses could provide a description of the assailant's face.

"We couldn't do a facial composite," he said. "Its very tough to work on if you don't have a facial descriptor or any physical evidence."

One student was shown a photo lineup but could not "pick out anything concrete," Callahan said. Callahan did not say if the student was a witness or a victim.

Although he declined offer specifics, Callahan said additional patrol officers remain on campus. Waltham police units were called in immediately following the assaults to provide added security. A second campus BranVan was also put into operation. Callahan said the van was later shutdown due to infrequent usage but could be reinstituted at anytime.

"If the need arises, we're only a phone call away to put that van back on the road." he said. "It takes half-an-hour to get someone to get the van activated.
