Modfest unlikely before break
Contrary to rumors that the twice-postponed Modfest will be held on Feb. 12, the event will likely not be held until after the Feb. break, according to Foster Mods Senator Dilip Sidhu '05.Modfest has been postponed twice this semester due to rain and snow, first on Dec. 10 and again on Jan. 29.
The popular campus-wide party held in the Foster Mods for the past four years faced permanent cancellation last semester due to the administration's concerns about safety and security. But an agreement between Union senators, members of the senior class, administrators and public safety officials addressed those concerns, allowing the event to continue in a modified form.
Sidhu said the combination of funding obstacles and scheduling conflicts stand in the way of a Feb. 12 Modfest.
The International Club's semi-annual Pachanga, a dance party generally held in Levin ballroom, is scheduled for Feb. 12. Sidhu said every effort is being made to ensure that Modfest does not conflict with other events, including Pachanga.
He said that though there is no definitive date for Modfest, he and Senator for the Class of 2005 Alex Amann are working towards rescheduling the party.
"We have been taking the steps necessary to ensure that Modfest will happen at the earliest possible date," Sidhu said.
Sidhu said these steps include collecting the necessary funding and coordinating with other groups involved, such as BEMCo, WBRS and Public Safety.
"Once we have all these groups locked in for a particular night, it will happen," Sidhu said.
Among the compromises made last semester is a mandate that the party be held entirely outdoors. Individual residences in the Foster Mods would not be open to party-goers.
