Swimming: Judges snap skid with home win over Cougars
High spirits and fan support contributed to the Brandeis swimming and diving teams' win over Clark University last Wednesday in what was supposed be the last home meet of the season.Friends and alumni turned out to watch as the men's and women's teams each secured their first wins after three consecutive losses, out-scoring Clark 110-81 and 131-109, respectively.
"It was our last home meet, and a lot of our friends were there," Lauren Ruderman '07 said. "I think we just had really good spirits going into the meet and everyone was just pumped and excited and used that [to have] a good swim."
The men's side claimed first place in seven out of the 13 events, with the 400-yard medley relay team coming in nearly 20 seconds before their Clark counterparts. Ross Gercenstein '06, who swam the third leg of the relay, also won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.67 and 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.83.
The women nabbed nine out of 13 first-place spots. Carrie Bilodeau '05 won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:46.23 and Elizabeth Fischer '05 won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:30.57.
Brandeis was originally scheduled to visit Worcester Polytechnic Institute last Saturday, but the weekend blizzard postponed the meet to tonight at 6 p.m. at Brandeis' home pool.
After hosting WPI, Brandeis will begin training for the UAA championships to be held next month in Chicago.
