Though the Dec. 10 Modfest was cancelled due to inclement weather, a Modfest will occur within the next few months, according to Assistant Dean of Student Life Alwina Bennett. "Before February is out, we will see a party if the senior senators do what they need to do," Bennett said.

The popular semi-annual party in the upper Mods, long heralded as one of the most successful student social events on the Brandeis calendar, was threatened with permanent cancellation last semester by the Departments of Student Life and Public Safety due to several safety concerns.

Negotiations between Union senior senators and the administration resulted in a new proposal that satisfied those concerns. In an open letter to the student body, the event organizers apologized for the cancellation of the Dec. 10 Modfest and promised that it would be rescheduled this semester.

Bennett said that more details, including the date, will be available once the senior senators have met with representatives from the Public Safety and Conference and Events Services.

Michal Goldstein '05, who held a town hall meeting in his Mod last semester to raise support for Modfest, said that he and his peers had similar feelings about the event.

"I have an incredibly strong desire to see it happen," he said. "It was very disappointing that it was canceled last semester, especially for those who have already graduated.'

But he hopes Modfest will be held "in the next few weeks."

"All of the red tape we had to go through to make Modfest happen was completed last semester," Vice President of the Student Union Erica Lemansky '05 said. "Now it is only a matter of choosing a date, which should happen soon."

Many first years also looked forward to the event as a way of meeting new people and gaining a sense of school solidarity.

Class of 2008 senator Sam Vaghar said that he was "happy that the senior senators pulled their weight and made it happen because most of our constituency wanted it done.
