Brandeis University students allegedly heard gunshots while attending a party at a house on Russell Street in Waltham early Saturday morning, according to one student present at the party who asked not to be identified. No injuries occurred, and Waltham police and Brandeis Public Safety have been unable thus far to identify any suspects in the case, according to the student.

"The matter is still under investigation," Detective Sgt. Tim King of the Waltham Police Department said.

According to the student source at the party, two gunshots were fired after an altercation between a resident of the house and a student who had arrived with a gun, accompanied by a friend. The identities of the two friends who had arrived at the party, and whether they are Brandeis students, are not known.

The source told the Justice said that the male who had arrived with the gun "got angry about something ridiculous, pulled out a gun...and said [to the resident of the house], 'do you want to die tonight,'" pointing the gun at the individual. The male with the gun then proceeded to point the gun at "a couple of other people, [and then he] fired two shots and took off."

The source added that upon their arrival, Waltham police made three arrests. Police were not, however, able to identify anyone who may have fired a gun.

King said that a police officer already in the area claimed to have heard gunshots and arrived at the house in question at approximately 2:14 a.m. on Saturday.

It is unclear whether a gun had actually been shot, according to King.

"There was some sort of altercation that took place," King said. "[But] we found no evidence of a gun being shot down there. At this point, it doesn't appear that anybody actually did shoot a gun down there."

The source said, "The cops handled it very well, but no I.D. could be made on the kid."

Waltham police, however, are continuing their investigation into the possible shooting.
