Union Advocate files for financial review deadline extension
Union Advocate Josh Sugarman '05 filed to extend the deadline for completing the constitutionally-mandated financial review of the Student Activities Fee. This filing is in accordance with Article 13, Section 5 of the Union Charter which says, "If the task force (in charge of the review process) decides that it requires additional time before submitting an amendment to the Union for a vote, the Senate may, by two-thirds majority vote, postpone the required referendum for up to one year."An amendment has already been proposed to the student body but is not up for a vote until mid-March. As a result, Sugarman needed to ask the Union Judiciary (UJ) to extend the deadline. The UJ has granted extensions several times before. Unless something unforeseen happens or the amendment fails, this will be the last time an extension is sought.
"This is a culmination of a five year process, which stands to fundamentally improve the basic operations of our Union," Union President Ben Brandzel '03 said. "We are looking for the support the constitution provides to make sure this happens.
