A-board elects new chair
Noah D. Branman '03 relinquished his position as Chair of the Allocations Board (A-board) last week. He will, however, remain a regular member of the board. The board members voted for Ari Y. Kahan '03 as their new chair. Branman said his resignation was due to time constraints. As chairman, he would have missed certain meetings because of a play he is working on this semester. Such a tight schedule "would make it hard to be the coordinator of things," he said.
"I just thought it would be better for someone else to be chair," Branman said. He has been a member of the A-board since April 2001 and was nominated chairman in April 2002.
By a majority vote of the members of the A-board, Ari Kahan '03 will take over the position for the remainder of this term. His duties are "basically to chair the meetings, make sure the A-board fulfills its responsibilities," and organize the funding marathon and similar upcoming events, Branman said.
The A-board is an independent part of the Student Union and allocates the majority of Union funds. The Senate allocates the other portion. When asked whether the new requirements for club chartering would change the A-board's job, Branman said that he did not think these new rules would impact their work significantly.
Although A-board members said they regret losing Branman as their chair, they are pleased he will remain a part of the board. Branman said he "will definitely help Ari as needed."
"We all work as a team, so the chair doesn't really act differently in the meetings," he added.
