The sounds of music are festive
Many students in Ridgewood Quad awoke to singing or whistling flutes on Saturday morning. The Sounds of Music, an all day music marathon sponsored by the music department, filled Slosberg and surrounding areas with beautiful music starting at 10:30 a.m. The day was packed with performances by a cappella groups, the Brandeis Wind Ensemble, the Brandeis Improvisation Collective, the Brandeis Jazz Ensemble, Brandeis Solo Ensemble, the Brandeis Early Music Ensemble and the Brandeis University Chorus singing with the Brandeis University Orchestra and the Wellesley College Orchestra.Between these performances, there was a Chamber Music Extravaganza and an open mic hour hosted by Ethan Baird '02. This gave anyone at Brandeis a chance to perform. Performers included students and professors singing, playing the violin, the saxophone and Spanish folk songs on the guitar. Father David Michael treated the intimate audience to a couple Bach songs on the organ.
The day ended with a movie singalong to the film "The Sound of Music." The marathon was able to provide a little music to brighten up the campus and was a welcome break from studying.
