Cross country opens its season

Brandeis men's tennis gave a warm welcome to Bentley, Queens College,and Franklin Pierce on their home turf, winning two of the three singles flights and one in doubles at the Brandeis Invitational Tournament last weekend.Mike Vulfovich '07 defeated Bentley opponent Mike McCrillis 6-1, 6-1 on the first day of competition, and sailed through the semifinals and final pro-set games, played indoor due to inclement weather, 10-5 and 10-8 to claim the B flight.Cliff Silverman '07 advanced to the finals of the C flight after defeating teammate Seth Green '06 in the quarterfinal match.


OP-ED: Venerate our vocabulary values

Why is it that when I use the words "grotesque" or "erudite" in casual conversation, the most common response I get is rolling eyes accompanied by "Ugh, stop using big words?" Rather confused, I always reply, "Why?" Why on earth should I stop making use of a small portion of under-appreciated words which serve to better illustrate my argument and, frankly, make listening to me more enjoyable?
