Study says bad marriage equals bad health

A bad marriage may lead to a poor performance at work and serious health problems, according to a three-year study released in May by two Women's Studies Resource Center (WSRC) researchers."If you have a problem in a marriage, you aren't leaving the marriage behind when you walk out the door to work," said Rosalind Barnett, a senior scientist at the WSRC and executive director of its Community, Families & Work Program (CFWP). "Don't ignore a bad marriage, it has a bad effect on your biochemistry."Barnett, along with program director of the CFWP Karen Gareis and Andrew Steptoe of University College London, monitored 105 participants' blood pressure and levels of a hormone known to indicate stress, cortisol.


ITS and library join forces, hope to better utilize resources

In an effort to more effectively share departmental resources, Library Sciences merged with Information Technology Services this summer to create the Library and Technology Services department, according to officials in the new office.Finances for the merger came from both departments, producing a collective LTS budget of over $10 million.


Kosher Express takeout to serve Sherman diners

In an effort to add convenience to kosher students' daily routines, Dining Services will be adding kosher takeout to Sherman Dining Hall within in the next eight to ten weeks, Dining Services officials said.The Kosher Express Convenience Store will provide pre-packaged kosher items in a convenience store setting similar to the arrangement at the Boulevard in Usdan, said Dining Services Director of Operations Michael Newmark.Three shelves and a mini-cooler in Sherman will carry kosher products ready for students to grab and go on their way to class.
