Brandeis' endowment return lower than last year

Brandeis received a record-breaking 18.3 percent return on its endowment for the 2007 fiscal year ending last June, but has since received a much lower return in line with a national trend affecting all colleges, according to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Peter French.Chief Investment Officer and Vice President for Investment Management Deborah Kuenstner said Brandeis' return is 1.2 percent higher than the national average of 17.2 percent that was reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education Jan.


Prof awarded grant for memory research

Prof. Margie Lachman (PSYC), chair of the Psychology Department and director of the Lifespan Developmental Psychology Lab, was recently awarded a five-year, $1.45 million grant by the National Institute on Aging to continue her research on memory and aging.Lachman's research focuses on "memory changes in adulthood and looking for ways to optimize memory functioning throughout the adult years," she said.Lachman identified stress and anxiety as major factors in memory, and this will be the focus of her future research under the new grant.


Nhlapo discusses country's concerns

South African Ambassador to the United States Welile Nhlapo spoke about what his country's government is doing to improve the situation there during the annual Ruth First Memorial Lecture last Monday evening in the Hassenfeld Conference Center.


Zipcars come to Brandeis

The University will acquire two vehicles from Zipcar, a worldwide car-sharing program in which universities rent cars to students at an hourly rate, after efforts by Union officials.Class of 2008 Senator Asher Tanenbaum said the University will have the cars in as soon as eight weeks but it may take well over that amount of time.


Heller accredited after ranking No. 9 in world

The Heller School for Social Policy and Management's M.B.A. program was recently accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business along with several programs at Brandeis' International Business School.The announcement came one month after the Aspen Institute rated the Heller School's M.B.A.


Jewish-black dialogue promoted at MLK event

In an effort to improve Jewish-black dialogue on campus and promote intercultural cooperation, the Brandeis Orthodox Organization and the Brandeis Black Student Organization hosted a jam session in the Intercultural Center last Tuesday.
