TENNIS: Men's team defeats U.S. Coast Guard Academy

After taking a 5-3 lead in the third set of last Friday's No. 3 singles match against U.S. Coast Guard Academy junior Chris Pappe, men's tennis player Seth Rogers '10 requested to move indoors due to darkness in what would be the match that determined which team emerged victorious.Before resuming play indoors, Rogers said coach Ben Lamanna emphasized the importance of winning on his serve, especially given the surface of the indoor courts, which lends itself to a faster game.


TENNIS: Teams take first dual matches

Behind 7-6 with their opponents serving for fifth place in the No. 2 doubles flight last Saturday at the Northeast Intercollegiate Tournament, men's tennis players Steven Nieman '11 and Mike Tatarsky '12 were running out of chances to win the match.But they broke Bucknell College's senior Daniel Bednarek and rookie Clark Bogle to tie the score and stay in the match.


Sailing team debuts rookies in season-opening regatta

The sailing team, which featured four first-time collegiate sailors among its seven participants, finished in 18th place out of 19 teams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Invitational last Sunday."Considering that this was our first event with a lot of freshmen, I thought we did quite well," coach Tom Robinson said.


TENNIS: Teams kick off fall season

Behind 9-8 in a deciding third-set super-tiebreaker in the championship match at last weekend's Eastern College Athletic Conference Open Tennis Championships at Trinity College, women's tennis player Rachel Rosman '11 was one point away from losing the match.Instead of folding, Rosman regrouped, hitting a passing shot against Bowdoin College's senior Sara D'Elia, who was at the net, to tie the score before winning the next two points to earn the gold medal in the Flight A singles bracket.


Two-year success

Jessica Johnson, who just completed her second season as head coach of the Brandeis softball team, was originally recruited to play soccer at Wheaton College and almost didn't even play college softball."[I] was a soccer fanatic and wasn't planning on playing college softball, but ended up [doing so], and here I am today.


Team wins first-ever ECAC title

Entering the final inning down 5-3 in the championship round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament against second-seeded Keene State College May 11, the softball team knew if they won, they would claim the program's first-ever ECAC title.


SOFTBALL: Squad starts a new run

After tying a school record for longest winning streak and a team record for most wins in a season last Wednesday, the softball team achieved another unique feat last Sunday, scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning of the second game of a doubleheader in an 11-0 shutout over Bowdoin College.Brandeis climbed to 33-8-1 with the win after defeating Bowdoin 8-4 in the first game.
