Greek liaison group approved by Senate

After almost four hours of debate over the recognition of the Organization for the Discussion of Greek Life in Popular Culture - commonly referred to as the Greek Life Council - a club dedicated to "educating the community of the diverse philanthropic, political and social efforts of local and national Greek letter organizations," according to its constitution, was granted recognition by the Senate on Sunday."We are seeking to educate the Brandeis community on common misconceptions about Greek life and to a greater enhance the community through means such as philanthropic events to benefit charities representing great causes," said Amy Tu '04, a member of Sigma Delta Tau.


Heller gets $15 mil for new building

A $15 million donation from trustee emeritus Irving Schneider made in July 2003 will nearly double the size of The Heller School for Social Policy and Management, creating much needed space for the expanding school and a new, state-of-the-art facility."Heller has been in need of new facilities for years," Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic affairs and former Heller graduate, Marty Krauss '81 said.


BMSA mentor hired after years of delay

After six years of pushing the administration to hire a Muslim spiritual adviser, the Brandeis Muslim Student Association (BMSA) has finally been granted their request with the appointment of Dr. Qumar-ul Huda as Adviser to the MSA and Adjunct Assistant Professor in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies last Wed.


MSA close to hiring new chaplain

Pushing for major changes in its organization, the Muslim Student Association (MSA) is hoping to relocate their prayer room from Gordon Hall basement in North Quad, and to hire a part-time chaplain to oversee religious activities.


Student's 'crucial' role in social justice revisited

Harvard University Professor Marshall Ganz, a longtime community organizer and an associate of United Farm Workers (UFW) President Caesar Chavez, spoke last Tuesday at "Brandeis University on Social Justice and Change," an event organized by Students for a Just Society (SJS). He discussed community organizing, movement building and his involvement with Chavez.Ganz began by stressing young people's prominent role in social action by referring historically to their contribution to the civil rights movement and his own participation in SNIK (The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) during the early 1960s.
