CROSS COUNTRY: Judges expect success in 2009

After a 10-year absence from the NCAA Division III Championships, the men's cross country team surprised many when it reached the most competitive meet of the season and finished in 20th place out of 32 teams, recording 512 points.


ROOKIE TO LOOK FOR: Alex Kramer '13

The expectations for rookie cross country runner Alex Kramer '13 are larger than those for other first-year athletes.Kramer has bigger shoes to fill.The Massachusetts native has the opportunity this season to become the third consecutive Brandeis runner to win the University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year honor: Marc Boutin '12 earned it last season, and Mekonen Gendebo '11 did so the year before."He can be someone that can contribute and maybe keep the UAA Rookie of the Year award in our name," teammate Paul Norton '11 said.


University makes golf program's return official

The University has officially reinstated the varsity golf team through the 2009 to 2010 season after members of the team independently raised the necessary $22,000 to support the team's operating budget for next year, Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa '90 announced in a press conference last Wednesday.


Golf team raises funds to continue program

The varsity golf program will continue for at least one more season after members of the golf team raised close to $22,000 in donations to cover its costs, according to three members of the team.The University has not yet officially announced the return of the team for next year, but it hopes to do so after the April break, according to Dean of Student Life Rick Sawyer.Captains Aaron Hattenbach '09 and Alex Podell '09, as well as Aaron Cusato '12, told the Justice that the team would return next season.


SWIMMING: Records shattered at ECAC Championships

The women's swimming and diving team's relay foursome of Angela Chui '12, Hollis Viray '10, Siobhan Lyons '10 and Julia Derk '12 held four out of five school records in relay events coming into the final day at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Harvard University last Sunday.


SWIMMING: Teams end regular season with strong outings

With four swimmers winning three events apiece, it was no surprise that the women's swimming and diving team was miles ahead of host Trinity College on the scoreboard last Saturday.The women's squad routed Trinity 177-120, closing its dual-meet season with a record of 6-3 following last Friday's 129-114 win against Clark University.
