Film festival will celebrate Jewish experiences

Film festival season is starting up at Brandeis! But before the student-centered SunDeis and IndieLouies start, the season will kick off with JEWISHFILM.2010, the 13th annual festival by the National Center for Jewish Film, which will be running from April 7 through April 18 in Wasserman Cinematheque.Since it began in 1997 to celebrate Israel's 50th anniversary with a showcase of Israeli cinema, the festival has come to include films from all over the world, with this year's movies coming from six different countries, including Israel, the U.S., Germany, France, Poland and Argentina.Each year's festival also features a film restored by the Center.


Cultures unite to call for peace

Corrections appended"Build bridges between cultures through music": Mochila's mission statement encompasses the driving force behind the Musika Rox event well, though two words should be added at the end of that statement: "and dance." Musika Rox, combining the words meaning music in Hebrew and dance in Arabic, is a union between B'yachad, Brandeis' semi-professional Israeli dance troupe, and the aforementioned Mochila, a student-formed Arab jazz fusion band.


The Box' is captivating riddle

The Box, is the newest movie from director Richard Kelly, known best for his masterpiece head-scratcher Donnie Darko (2001) and the disastrous head-exploder that was Southland Tales (2006). He has stated that he wants to make The Box a "commercial film," and it shows.


Serious Man' seeks religion

As the new Coen brothers' movie, A Serious Man, was introduced at the Wassermann Cinematheque, it was pointed out that Judaism was a central part of the movie.
