Pauri Pandian, the assistant coach for the men and women’s tennis teams, has been named the Division III Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Brandeis athletics announced on its website on May 8. This season marked the fourth of Pandian’s career in which he has worked under head coach Ben Lamanna.

The first round of the National Hockey League playoffs has almost come to an end. Only two series have not been decided as of Sunday, with the Washington Capitals hosting the New York Islanders in the Verizon Center in a deciding Game 7 and the Detroit Red Wings heading back to Joe Louis Arena to attempt to upset the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
■ Left fielder Ryan Tettemer had a home run and three RBIs in the Judges’ 6-5 defeat to Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon.
■ Shortstop Anya Kamber ’15 hit a two-run homer in a win against UMass Boston on Friday afternoon.

■ Michael Arguello ’17 and Jeff Cherkin ’17 improved to 13-9 in doubles play with a victory on Saturday.
The National Hockey League draft lottery took place Saturday night, and every non-playoff team had a chance to win the right to draft first overall on June 26. The Buffalo Sabres and Arizona Coyotes actively spent this NHL season tanking to increase their chances of drafting consensus generational talent Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters. They came into the draft with lottery odds of 20 percent and 13.5 percent, respectively. As models of rebuilding franchises, these teams have been taking steps to surround whichever of McDavid or other generational talent—Boston University’s star center Jack Eichel—they had the privilege to draft. Instead, the third-worst team in the NHL will now have the chance to draft McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers won the draft lottery at 11 percent odds, and they will be selecting number one overall for the fourth time in the last six seasons. With those other three first overall picks, the Oilers selected Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov, all skilled offensive players, and failed to focus on their defense through the draft at the number one position. All of their selections since 2010 have been in the top 10, but the only defenseman drafted of those picks was Darnell Nurse, the nephew of NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb, at number seven overall.
■ Pitcher Sean O’Neill threw seven shutout innings in the Judges’ 3-1 victory against New York University on Sunday afternoon.
■ Haley Cohen ’18 and Carley Cooke ’15 won their doubles match against Bates College on Sunday.
■ Grady Ward ’16 finished the men’s 800-meter with a time of 2:04.03 that earned him sixth place out of 70.
In high school, New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis thought he was going to be a point guard.
■ Brian Granoff ’17 won both of his matches on Saturday to lead the Judges to victory over the Coast Guard Bears.
■ Pitcher Justin Gallanty ’18 has amassed five strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched this season for the Judges.
Steve Nash ended his 19-year NBA playing career Saturday, announcing his retirement in a letter published by The Players’ Tribune website. “I heard someone once say there comes a day when they tell us all that we can’t play anymore,” Nash, 41, wrote in his letter.
This week, Brandeis athletics saw numerous cancellations due to inclement weather. The softball team’s game on the road at Clark University on Saturday was postponed until a date yet to be determined.
Guard Hannah Cain ’15 of the women’s basketball team was selected to participate in the 2015 New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Game last Tuesday night. The captain and only senior on the team was also named to the All-University Athletic Association second team this past regular season. The award was the second of her collegiate career, after she previously earned the achievement in her sophomore season. Cain was the all-around leader for the Judges this season.
■ Pitcher Kyle Brenner ’16 threw 123 pitches in his 16th career complete game in a loss to Rochester University on Friday.
