Boston Bruins season preview

(12/03/24 11:00am)

As of Nov. 29, 2024, the Boston Bruins are the fourth seed in the Atlantic Division, holding a record of 11-11-3. Since winning the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, the Bruins have been trying to recapture their championship glory. Despite strong regular season performances and even setting a National Hockey League record for most regular season wins in the 2022-2023 season, the Bruins have been stumped by mediocrity when it comes to postseason success. Fans might be in for much of the same disappointment as the Bruins’ start to the 2024-2025 season has been subpar.

A recap of Week 13 (Thanksgiving Week) of the National Football League season

(12/03/24 11:00am)

Week 13 of the NFL season did not disappoint as Thanksgiving week featured a myriad of high octane matchups and nail biting finishes. Typical of the holiday, games were spread out throughout the week’s entirety for fans to enjoy. This included three matchups on Thursday, Nov. 28 and a game on Friday, Nov. 29 to complement the rest of the games predominantly taking place on Sunday. As a result, fans were able to consistently tune into nonstop NFL action throughout their Thanksgiving break.

Recapping Week 10 of the National Football League season

(11/12/24 11:00am)

Week 10 of the National Football League  was a particularly exciting one for lovers of nail-biting contests, as eight of the 13 matchups this past week featured final scores with a separation of five points or fewer between winner and loser. Games like this showcase highly entertaining finishes where the best players have the opportunity to exhibit their “clutch gene,” leading their squads to hard-fought victories. Some flourished in these high pressure moments while others struggled under the bright lights.

The Brandeis swim team takes on the war of Waltham

(11/12/24 11:00am)

On Friday, Nov. 8 the Brandeis Swim and Dive team took on the Bentley University Falcons. Taking place at Bentley University to continue the war of Waltham, Brandeis swam away with losses on both the men’s and women’s sides, but not without some individual wins. The men’s score was 164-94 in favor of the Falcons and the women’s score was 180-74, also in favor of Bentley.

Boston Celtics preseason recap

(11/12/24 11:00am)

After the Boston Celtics won the 2024 National Basketball Association Championship this past June, all eyes are on the team as they are expected to dominate the upcoming season once more. Given that no team has won back-to-back championships since the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018, it will be no easy feat to replicate the historic season the Celtics had last year. Of course, the preseason does not count towards anything, but it is a time to see if players have improved over the summer. The preseason also allows younger players to have the opportunity to show coaches that they can provide beneficial talent and depth to the roster.

Brandeis men’s and women’s soccer teams play final home games on senior day

(11/12/24 11:00am)

It was a bittersweet end to the 2024 soccer season on Saturday, Nov. 9. The women’s team lost their seventh and final game of the season to University Athletics Association opponent New York University. Of their seven losses, six were disappointing defeats at the hands of UAA rivals.

Men and women's soccer face off against Case Western

(11/05/24 11:00am)

Both the Brandeis men’s and women’s soccer teams played conference games against the Case Western Reserve University Spartans last Sunday, Nov 3. The men’s team won 2-1 — their second-straight conference win after defeating Rochester University 3-2 the week before. The women’s team tied the Spartans 1-1. Their equalizing goal came from Dominique Paglia ’25 in the 25th minute off a shot just outside the goalie box. It was her first goal of the year and the third of her career. Case Western should have had more momentum in the second half, as they were playing the end of the game with an additional player after an 86th-minute red card against the Judges, but they were ultimately unable to capitalize. Keeper Rachel Ross M’25 kept the Judges tied with six saves, her third highest mark of the season. With the tie, the women’s team moves to 9-6-1 and 0-5-1 in conference play. Heading into their final game, Rachel Walter ’25 leads the team with 20 points based on total assists recorded and goals scored with eight and six, respectively. Tanvi Raju ’27 holds the high mark for goals scored with seven.

The Los Angeles Dodgers win the 120th World Series

(11/05/24 11:00am)

The 120th Major League Baseball World Series concluded on Wednesday Oct. 30 with an impressive win for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Facing off against the New York Yankees, the Dodgers secured a commanding victory as the series concluded 4-1. The Dodgers dominated the first three games, winning the first  6-3 and the second and third 4-2. The Yankees bounced back in game four with a decisive 11-4 win, however, the Dodgers denied any real attempt for a comeback during an extremely tight game five, clinching the series with a score of 7-6.

After a loss to Emory, the Judges rally to defeat Rochester

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Resilience is the story of the Brandeis men’s soccer team this year. Fighting back from a slow start, the Judges have kept their heads above water against opponents in the University Athletics Association conference. This past weekend they displayed their typical tendency for a tenacious and unrelenting defense of their just barely winning record. Their first match against Emory University was less than exciting for the Judges in a match that left much to be desired from both teams, but their second showing versus the University of Rochester was a thrilling showdown between two teams vying for a winning conference record.

Recap of weeks seven and eight of the National Football League season

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Weeks seven and eight in the National Football League continued to showcase the league’s parity, reinvigorating the notion that no win is an easy one. As of week eight, the Kansas City Chiefs are the league’s only undefeated squad, boasting a 7-0 record. Additionally, every single team has won a game this season and the only teams that have not reached multiple victories are the Tennessee Titans and lowly Carolina Panthers. The road to playoff contention in the NFL is notoriously fierce and difficult, so it will be incredibly exciting to tune in for the remaining weeks of the regular season as teams jostle for playoff position.

Brandeis women's soccer team struggles against Emory and Rochester

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Instead of what could have been a pair of confidence boosting wins, it was a frustrating weekend for the Brandeis women’s soccer team. The double defeat came down to just two unlucky goals making the difference, as the Emory University Eagles and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets have established themselves as ascending powers in the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division III soccer scene late in the season. The Judges’ goalie, Rachel Ross MA ’25, played another career best game statistically on Friday, but the once red-hot and rising Judges have cooled off as the postseason approaches.

'With change comes opportunity': Coach Julie Pritchett discusses her vision for the upcoming basketball season

(10/29/24 10:00am)

It’s 8:30 a.m. and early in the school year — the first official meeting between the Brandeis University women’s basketball team and new head coach, Julie Pritchett, has just begun. The returning players on the roster had been part of the selection process after the retirement of former head coach Carol Simon earlier this year. Some had been in contact with well-wishes and congratulations after Pritchett’s hiring as the sixth women’s basketball coach in school history was finalized. But now, bright and early, it was Pritchett’s time to outline her vision for this team.
