The Brandeis chapter of Relay For Life held its annual fundraising event in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center on Saturday, raising over $40,000 for the American Cancer Society. The event ran from 5 p.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Sunday and included performances from dance troupe KAOS Kids, a cappella group Rather Be Giraffes and comedy improv group False Advertising.
The men and women’s track and field teams returned with a bang at the University of Southern Maine Open, enjoying a slew of strong finishes at the non-scoring meet. The Judges picked up six wins across the meet in their first action since the University of Massachusetts Boston Invitational in early December.

The men’s basketball team went 2-1 this past week, defeating Salem State University 83-63 on Sunday, losing to Babson 75-65 on Saturday and beating Becker College 79-58 last Tuesday. With the victory on Sunday, the Judges improve to 5-2 overall.

On Monday, the University welcomed media critic Anita Sarkeesian for a lecture on sexist and anti-feminist tropes in video games. The lecture had initially been planned for February, but it had to be rescheduled due to major snowfall that caused travel problems.

The Student Union held its second round of elections on Friday Oct. 2 to fill four seats that were left vacant in the first round of elections on Friday Sept. 11. Max Byer ’19 was elected as Massell Quad Senator, William Jones ’18 was elected as Rosenthal Quad Senator, Kenyon Fraser ’16 was elected to the position of Mods Quad Senator and Valarie Timms ’16 was elected to fill the position of Charles River/567 Senator.
The National Hockey League season opened on Wednesday as the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks took on the New York Rangers and lifted their championship banner. The Blackhawks ended up losing in a tight game but came to the Barclays Center as the New York Islanders opened their new venue.

‘Trainwreck’
Brandeis graduate and men’s soccer forward Michael Soboff ’15 has become just the second player in the university's history to play professional soccer.
The Shapiro Gymnasium in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center filled with noise and energy on Sunday as incoming firstyears, transfer students and their families gathered for the 2015 Convocation ceremony. The central theme for orientation was “Share Stories; Make Connections.”
