Vincent Asante '14 honored as University Athletic Association Indoor Track Rookie of the Year
Rookie sprinter Vincent Asante '14 was named the University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year for 2011. Asante was selected after winning the 55-meter dash at UAAs, and earning a second all-UAA honor by finishing third in the 200-meter race."I was really surprised," Asante said of winning the award. "It shows how I wanted to start off my career as a track athlete at Brandeis. It was rewarding."
Asante also set the Brandeis record in the 55-meter dash last weekend at the Eastern College Athletic Conference meet. Asante finished in 6.48 seconds, beating the previous school record by 0.07 seconds.
"I was really surprised because I was thinking that I wasn't going to get it this year because I'd been running the same times [all season]," Asante said.
After a stellar rookie season, Asante is confident that he can improve on his results next season.
"This was my first year, and I didn't really know how college worked," he said. "Next year is when I need to take it to the next level. I'm staying [on campus] over the summer to work on my stamina, so next year I should improve.
