Athlete of the Week: Morgan Kendrew '12
Women's basketball guard Morgan Kendrew '12 continued her impressive season with a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds in the Judges' 74-63 loss to Emory University on Sunday. The starting sophomore guard is averaging 11.9 points per game and has scored the second most points behind senior guard Jessica Chapin '10.
Kendrew has led the team in scoring four times this season, and although Kendrew had a strong season last year, she thinks that she has improved her game.
"I am more confident this year, take more shots, drive to the basket more this year, and that gets me more points," she said.
In a 55-48 win over the University of Rochester on Friday, Kendrew scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes of playing time.
Kendrew and Chapin, make up a strong Brandeis backcourt. With Chapin graduating this year, Kendrew feels that Chapin has helped her throughout her career at Brandeis.
"[Chapin] is always there to pick me up, tell me when I'm doing well and [badly]," she said.
Despite Kendrew's play, the team is only 9-6. Last season, the Judges lost only seven games.
However, Kendrew is confident that the team can finish the season strong.
"I think that we've been struggling in some of our losses, but I think we can pull it together," she said. "We just need to play team defense as a whole, settle down on offense and not force anything."
Kendrew looks forward to the future of the team as well.
"We definitely have a young team: Our freshmen are really good, and we have some great players coming in next year. With experience, they will help us out a lot, and I think we'll be good for a few seasons to come," said Kendrew.
