Athlete of the week: Alexander Farr '12
After a successful rookie season last year, forward Alexander Farr '12 sat out the first two games of the 2009 season with an injured hip flexor. Now, he's back to full health and is leading the team in goals.Farr scored the first goal in the Judges' 3-1 victory at Springfield College last Wednesday, his seventh of the season.
Although the injury plagued him for the beginning of the season, Farr believes that he is now at the top of his game.
"The early injury threw off my preparation for a bit, but I feel like I'm really coming into the part of the season where I am playing my best soccer," Farr said.
Coach Mike Coven feels that Farr's injury was one of the main reasons the team got off to a slow start this year, saying that Farr's presence could have won them a few of the games that they lost early on.
"We lost some games early in the year that we probably would have won if he had played," Coven said. "There was a game earlier this year [against Southern Maine University] that we lost 2-0. He would have scored a couple in that game."
Farr has raised his level of play this year. After scoring four goals as a first- year, he has transformed from the solid player who started half the games last year to a threat every time he touches the ball this year.
"As a freshman, he was very, very good, but I never saw that breakaway speed until this year," Coven said. "He's really shown a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and he's very composed when he collects the ball."
Farr is very excited about the team's prospects for the rest of the season.
"Closing it out at home is going to be easier, and I really think we have the chance to close the season on a great note," he said.
He'll get his next chance to prove it tonight against Lasell College.
