BOSTON -The women's basketball team reached the second round of the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons, but it did so with distinctly different offensive styles. The Judges employed a more physical style of play last year, frequently pounding the ball inside to centers Caitlin Malcolm '07 and Christine Clancy '06. But this season, the Judges leaned toward a perimeter game, relying more on three-pointers.

Malcolm has seen a steady diet of double-and triple-teams this year, sometimes before she even touches the ball. Her scoring average dropped from 16.5 points per game last year to 11.1 this year.

"It was our game plan to go into the post as much as possible because you're getting higher percentage shots, but teams flood the paint against Malcolm," guard Jamie Capra '08 said.

However, Malcolm did finish second on the Judges with 52 assists.

"Malcolm has a good ability to recognize the double-teams and dish it off to an open player," Ali Chase '07 said.

Capra surpassed Malcolm as the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.8 points per game. Her offensive output was highlighted by a team-high 39 three-pointers.

Rookie guard Jessica Chapin '10 added 30 three-pointers on the season.

"I think our guards are getting more shots off because there's so much concentration in the middle of the paint, and we can't get layups off that," Capra said.
