Club Sports: Equestrian team finishes season at seventh
The Brandeis equestrian team followed a rainy Sunday morning horse show with an afternoon at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 1 Region 4 competition, where the team placed fourth out of eleven and finished the year seventh in their region overall. It was the team's last competition this season. The Judges qualified three riders for Regionals. Jessica Dillon '06 placed fourth in the intermediate-over-fences, Amanda Winer '06 placed eighth in novice-over-fences, and Iska Blusztajn '05 placed third in the walk-and-trot.
Over the course of the semester, the team attended nine shows, during which seven competing members attempted to acquire points. Those riders achieving 35 points or more qualified for the Regional competition.
Brandeis placed satisfactorily in the morning horse show as well. Dillon placed second in the open-flat, while Blusztajn placed second in the beginner- walk-trot-and-cantor
Meanwhile, Kate Gardiner '07 placed second in the walk- and-trot. Winer placed in two events, taking second in intermediate-over-fences and fifth in intermediate-flat.
"Despite the rain, everyone came out for the competition and did their best," Dillon said. "We have a lot of team spirit."
The season may be over, but the Judges have bigger plans for next year.
"We're really hoping to go to nationals next year," Dillon said. "We have two seniors graduating, but we have a lot of girls taking lessons who want to try showing."
"We've done very well this semester," Winer said. "The team has worked very hard. We need to have a better sense that we're a competitive team. We just need to continue to work hard and stay committed.
