Three Judges on the indoor track team have qualified for the NCAA championships next week in Bloomington, Ill. Jane Farrell '06, Ryan Parker '06 and Joel Sunshine '08 earned the right to represent the Judges at nationals with stellar individual performances, first in the New England Division III championships and then in the UAA championships. The women finished fifth at the UAA's and the men finished fourth. The women brought in an eighth place showing at the New England Division III championships while the men finished 17th. Farrell is the women's team's leading pole-vaulter and Parker is ranked No. 4 in the 800-meter dash. Sunshine is No. 18 in the one-mile run.

Farrell was also the star of the UAA championships at NYU on Feb. 25 and 26, winning her third consecutive pole vault title as well as achieving a personal best in the 400-meter run.

"Jane had a really hard and exhausting weekend," captain Remy Coyle '07 said. "We were all so proud of her. We really needed the points that she scored and she performed awesomely."

Olivia Alford '08 also set a personal best in both the 200-meter and 400-meter, while also running in the 4x400 relay team.

"UAAs were overall really good," Coyle said. "We did better than last year, which is always really exciting. We can't really do that well as a team because we only have two jumpers and no throwers, which makes it basically impossible to win."

Despite several setbacks, the men's team was able to move up a few places in the UAA championships and almost doubled last year's point total. Parker was upset in the 800-meter run and Sunshine pulled his calf while running the mile and was unable to finish.

Frank Longo '08 scored in three events, achieving third in the high- jump, fifth in the hurdles and sixth in the triple-jump. Mark Bercy '07 also set a personal record by a full 19 inches in the long-jump for third place and Brian Price '08 placed sixth in the high-jump.

"As a team we did pretty well at the UAAs," Sunshine said. "Everyone's happy with how things went. The only disappointing thing was that a few races didn't go as well as we wanted them to. I didn't finish my mile because my calf tightened up, and I was hoping to score some points that would've been helpful for the team."

Before competing in the UAA championships, the Judges took on local teams in the New England Division III championship at Smith College. Farrell placed second in the pole vault with a height of 10-feet-ll-inches while leading the distance medley team to a first-place finish. Olivia Alford '08 also earned individual All-New England honors with a third place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.38.

On the men's side, Parker won his second consecutive New England Division III indoor 800-meter title with a time of 1:54.96. Sunshine placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.47 and Machel Charles '08 earned an eight place finish in the 400-meter dash.
