The first Castle Quad Halloween Party had scary decorations, fun music, lots of candy, apple-cider in cauldrons and spooky costumes. Students came to celebrate the holiday and leave work behind -- at least from 8 to 11 p.m. "Is Spider-Man here?" one student asked as he gazed at the ceiling's extensive webbing above.

Several students said the extravagant costumes also added to the evening's delight.

Phil Cedar '03 came dressed as Jedi Master Obbi Wan Kenobi, wearing a brown cloak, a black belt, and a white under-suit. "I love Star Wars," Cedar said. "I take any chance I get to dress as a Jedi."

Shuster Matter '04 said he was proud to dress as the Wicked Witch of the East. "It's been my life-long dream," he said.

Others came dressed as knights, goths, magicians and witches. Two people came dressed as cowgirls. One was wearing white face paint, in an effort to show she was dead.

Music entailed everything from the Halloween movie theme song to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Those who were willing danced the night away, eating candy apples and popcorn.

Kranthi Palreddy '05 helped set up the event, which took seven hours to complete. "It' so stressful right now. We just want to make it a free environment. You can come in, get some grub, have a good time, do a little dance."

Resident advisers Cecil Thomas '03 and Vallere Medile '03 helped organize the event. They spent over a month coordinating the party with the Department of Residence Life, the Office of Student Life, the Office of Student Activities and the class of 2003.

"It is new, and we have never put it together," Thomas said, dressed as Derek Zoolander."All the different quads put this together. A lot of the time, quad programming will happen individually," he said.

"This is part of an effort to work with other quads and bring everybody together. People can come in, check out different stations, grab whatever they want, and if they want to head out, if they want to hang out, whatever," Thomas said. "If this is a success, we'd loved to do it again."

In conjunction with the Castle Quad Halloween Party, students were able to trick or treat in any Quad Office until 11:00 p.m. Ziv Commons also ran a movie marathon, featuring "Shadow of the Vampire," "Monsters Inc.," "The Others" and "The Blair Witch Project."
