The women’s volleyball team cruised past Worcester Polytechnic Institute 3-1 on Thursday and did not disappoint at Homecoming on Saturday. Playing at home, the squad dominated Gordon College and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth with 3-0 shutout victories.

The women’s soccer team kept its season rolling in the right direction with impressive wins this week against Wellesley College on Tuesday and Case Western Reserve University on Sunday. Now with an 8-1-1 record, the Judges look to move up in the Division III rankings after starting the week ranked No. 24 by the United Soccer Coaches.

The women’s volleyball team has struggled over its last four matches. While the team won on Sept. 21 against Emerson College, it has since lost three consecutive matches. Furthermore, all three losses came at the hands of University Athletic Association division opponents.

On a cold and wet Saturday afternoon, Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel took the mound for the 67th time this season, with a four-run lead and an opportunity to clinch the American League East in back-to-back seasons — the first time in club history. He struck out leadoff batting infielder Yuli Gurriel, allowed a home run to former teammate catcher Brian McCann, then let up a double to outfielder Cameron Maybin. However, he regrouped and finally struck out pinch hitting outfielder Tony Kemp and outfielder George Springer to seal a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros, beating out the New York Yankees for the AL East title.

The women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to five games over a long week of play, pummeling Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday and beating Johnson and Wales University on Saturday.

The men’s soccer team was back in action this past week, picking up two big wins against Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Elms College. While WPI put up a fight, the Judges steamrolled Elms College in an embarrassing 6-0 route. Since dropping their first match of the season, the squad has reeled off four straight victories. The team, now nationally ranked No. 20 in Division III, is doing good work in proving their pre-season No. 4 ranking was no fluke.

As the 2017 Major League Baseball season winds down, the Cleveland Indians have emerged as the story of the season. In this month alone, Cleveland, last year’s American League champions, ran off a mind-bending three-week stretch, winning a modern day record 22 consecutive games before a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 15. The men’s soccer team’s sole action of the week came Saturday in a cross-town rivalry showdown with Babson College. As usual, the rivalry match did not disappoint, as the Judges and Beavers went back and forth in what proved to be Brandeis’ most significant win of the young 2017 season. After dropping their season opener, the Judges seem to have regained their footing and are living up to their No. 4 ranking.
