Despite multiple elevators on campus appearing to have expired licenses, all of the University’s obligations have been filled, according to Vice President of Operations James Gray. The University is simply waiting for the state to inspect the elevators, Gray explained in an email to the Justice.

“We have made all the required requests for renewal, and because of that we are compliant with law until the inspections happen, and thereafter when we pass the inspections,” wrote Gray in an email to the Justice.

“The inspections are often months late because there are not enough state inspectors to keep up, and we don’t get the new certificate until after the inspections, hence the seemingly expired certificates in elevators now,” Grey wrote.

Some of the elevators listed expiration dates of Aug. 31, and others listed Oct. 1.
