Finance Board low on funding for fall

Facing a record-high amount of requests, the Finance Board will use a relatively low amount of funding to fund regular marathon requests as a result of more clubs requesting larger sums of money for early marathon.


University hires three advisors

Following the departure of two academic advisers, Jennifer Kim and Megan Penyack, the Office of Academic Services has hired Natacha Cesare and Katie McFaddin as the two newest additions to the office.Additionally, Misty Huacuja-LaPointe has been hired to replace Sarah Hoenig as the Manager of Lerman-Neubauer Fellows and University Merit Scholars."The departures are because of very happy personal circumstances," said Dean of Academic Services Kim Godsoe in an interview with the Justice.


Students draft letter to Peretz

Sahar Massachi '11 and Adam Hughes '12 drafted an open letter to Brandeis alumnus and Editor in Chief of The New Republic Marty Peretz '59 on behalf of the Brandeis community, requesting an apology for anti-Muslim sentiments he voiced in his column published in the liberal magazine last week, prior to Peretz's apology on Sept.


NIH gives grant to Schneider Institute

The Schneider Institute of Health Policy of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, the National Institute of Health and the Department of Veterans' Affairs, as well as 10 other research institutions, have been given funding to explore the link between substance abuse and military deployment.


Professors selected for fellowship

Profs. Irving Epstein (CHEM) and Yu-Hui Chang (MUS) have been selected as Radcliffe fellows for the 2010 to 2011 academic year, and will spend this year at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard working on individual interdisciplinary projects of their choice.While neither Chang nor Epstein will teach at Brandeis for the duration of the fellowship, both of them will maintain some contact with their respective students and projects on campus.The fellowship program accepted 50 professors this year.


New scholarship created in memory of '96 alumnus

The Daja Wangchuk Meston Greenberg '96 Endowed Scholarship was created this summer to honor the memory of a deceased alumnus who served as an advocate for the Tibetan people in his lifetime.Daja, referred to as "Wangchuk" during his time at Brandeis, was raised by Tibetan monks and graduated cum laude in 1996 without having prior formal instruction before enrolling, according to an Aug.


University exceeds fundraising goal

The University received $72 million in donations during fiscal 2010, the sixth year of the past 10 in which Brandeis secured $70 million or more in philanthropic support, according to an Aug.


First Brandeisians reminisce

Pierre-Louis praises grads

Student commencement speaker Justin Pierre-Louis '10 imparted heartfelt words of encouragement, respect and praise in his student commencement address to the Class of 2010.Reflecting upon his speech in an interview with the Justice, Pierre-Louis explained that he chose the accomplishments of his class as one of the focuses of his commencement address.
