Both the men’s and women’s fencing teams faced tough competition at the Brandeis Invitational held on Dec. 1. The men ended the day with a 2–3 record and the women had a 1–4 record for the day.

The Brandeis South Asian Student Association hosted their 18th annual “Mela,” a show that has brought members of the Brandeis community together since 2001. “Mela” was the finale to Brandeis’ “I am Global” week, a week-long event sponsored by the United States Department of Education to celebrate learning, cultural exchange and global awareness. At Brandeis, the week celebrates the global efforts and achievements that are taking place across campus to integrate students from outside the United States. The tickets for “Mela” were sold out before this widely anticipated event, which took place in Levin Ballroom on Saturday evening.
The Judges split their most recent games, defeating the Roger Williams University Hawks and losing to the Tufts University Jumbos. The Judges are currently at a record of 3–1 for the season and have yet to play any University Athletic Association Conference games. So far, the team is off to a decent start, and even their loss to the Jumbos was a very close contest.

With the conclusion of the women’s soccer season comes the end the team’s seven seniors’ collegiate careers: Sierra Dana, Katie Hayes, Amanda Fernbach, Kerin Miller, Victoria Richardson, Emma Specter and Zoe Ballas. The Judges ended with a season overall record of 11–7 and 2–5 in the University Athletic Association.

Student Union President Simran Tatuskar ’21 apologized for her role in breaking down communication within the Union in an email to the Brandeis community on Friday. “I apologize for the role that I played in perpetuating this cycle and want to make it clear that my focus moving forward within the parameters of my role is to ensure that these lines are strengthened via internal restructuring and overall policy changes,” she wrote.
The Judges closed out their regular season with three matches in the University Athletic Association Championships. Two matches took place on Friday against the Emory University Eagles and the Case Western Reserve University Spartans, and the third match took place on Saturday against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. The Judges finished the regular season with a 13-game losing streak. The women’s final overall record was 4–23 and 1–6 in the UAA. The winning percent for the Judges this season was a fairly low .148.

The men’s and women’s soccer teams both dropped the ball during their games against the Emory University Eagles and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. Both teams faced the Eagles on Friday and the Yellowjackets on Sunday. The men’s record for the season is now 9–5–4 overall and 2–3–1 in the University Athletic Association. The women are 10–7 overall and 1–5 in the UAA.
The Brandeis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Nov. 1. The women’s team faced WPI, Babson College, Smith College and Simmons College, while the men faced only WPI and Babson. Though none of the teams were Brandeis’ University Athletic Association rivals, these recent meets have still been important, as both squads are gearing up for the UAA championships that will take place in February.

Student Union Vice President Guillermo Caballero ’20 resigned from his position at Sunday’s Senate meeting, effective today at 4 p.m. He cited alleged exclusivity within the Union and conflicts with Union leadership as reason for his resignation.
University President Ron Liebowitz announced in a community-wide email on Thursday that his $84.7 million “Springboard Funding Plan” is ready to go into effect. The proposal, originally valued at approximately $73 million, will “address gaps in University operations that must be filled before pursuing a major capital campaign,” according to a Jan. 22 Justice article.
Continuing their strong season, the women’s soccer team won their only game of the week: an away game against the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors on Saturday. The Judges did not just squeak out their victory either. The team scored multiple points against the Warriors, ending with a final score of 2–0. The Judges’ season is now at an overall record of 10–5 as they enter the month of November.
