AEPi resurrected after disbandment

Conversation and controversy about Greek life at Brandeis has been virtually unavoidable since the late 1980s, when a group of students led by Matthew Brooks '87 started the University's first fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi, according to a Jan.

Brandeis closed as Hurricane Sandy approaches

With Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the East Coast, due to make its way to Long Island and southern New England early Monday, Brandeis has cancelled Monday classes and events and made preparations for the storm's impact on campus.

Library funds remain the same for 20 years

Correction appended. The value of investment in Brandeis's library collection, both in print and through digital resources, has seen little to no change in 23 years, according to data provided by John Unsworth, vice provost for Library and Technology Services and chief information officer. In an interview with the Justice, Unsworth acknowledged that the collections budget actually showed a small decrease from 1989, when it was about three and a quarter million dollars. In 2011, this figure was 3.14 million.

Fundraising expected to recover after dip

Correction appended. The University recently reported that it surpassed its fundraising goal for fiscal year 2012, despite a large drop in fundraising during FY 2011 that had led to the weakest outcome in ten years. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations released fundraising data citing the total amount of cash donations received in FY 2012 as $60,999,486. Nancy Winship, senior vice president of institutional advancement, said in an interview with the Justice that this outstrips the goal set last year of $55 to 57 million.

University seeks to improve relations with potential donors

The Office of Alumni Relations & Development recently stepped up efforts to connect with Brandeis' alumni-and potential donor- base, launching programs such as BOLD (Brandeisians of the Last Decade), holding a special swearing-in ceremony of alumni to the bar of the Supreme Court this summer and increasing University President Frederick Lawrence's visibility with alumni clubs across the country. From last January to this fall, the University put on 17 "rollout events" across the U.S.- and one in Israel-to introduce Lawrence to Brandeis alumni.
