Committee forms job descriptions

The Brandeis Administrative Structure Advisory Committee, an ad hoc committee tasked with evaluating administrative structures and duties, has begun to develop job descriptions for the positions of provost and senior vice president for students and enrollment, wrote committee chair and Dean of the Heller School Lisa Lynch in an e-mail to the Justice.Lynch wrote in her e-mail that the committee has focused on three areas to develop the two job descriptions.


Journalist covers Afghan elections

E. Benjamin Skinner, a journalist and senior fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism, spent the last 2 weeks in Afghanistan reporting on the parliamentary elections for Foreign Policy and serving as one of the 80 international election observers with Democracy International;Skinner, who returned to the United States last Wednesday, published two articles in Foreign Policy titled "E-Day in Kabul" and "The Vote Comes to Afghanistan's Peaceful Heartland." The former explores the atmosphere in Afghanistan leading up to the elections and the latter the resurgence of female political participation in the Afghan city of Bamiyan.According to its website, U.S.-based Democracy International "works on democracy and governance ... programs worldwide for the U.S.

Prof. Chad Bown (ECON), a specialist in international trade issues, is going to serve as one of the six senior economists on President Barack Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, according to a Sept.


Changes adopted in financial aid

Based on the recommendation of the Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Committee, a new admissions process will be adopted for the Class of 2015, according to University President Jehuda Reinharz.The committee's recommendation is that Brandeis adopt "the policy that consists of continuing to admit students on a need-blind basis; ... fully meeting that need until all available funds are exhausted; [and] continuing to admit students if necessary on a need-sensitive basis," Prof.


Heller professor passes away

Prof. Lorraine Vogel Klerman (Heller), director of the Institute Child, Youth and Family Policy at the Heller School for Social and Policy Management, passed away last Thursday at the age of 81 "due to complications of cancer," according to an undated news release posted on the Heller School's website.


Tea Party controversy clarified at conference

Chip Berlet, senior analyst at Political Research Associates, clarified the differences between the American Tea Party Movement and Neo-Nazism at a conference last Wednesday that generated controversy for allegedly linking the two political beliefs in its advertisements.


Reinharz to lead Mandel Foundation

After Jehuda Reinharz steps down as president of Brandeis, he will become president and CEO of the Mandel Foundation, "an internationally recognized charity that provides leadership to non-profits in the United States and Israel," according to an April 14 campuswide e-mail from Senior Vice President for Communications and External Affairs Andrew Gully.
