Bruins start off shortened season in style with resounding victory over rival New York Rangers

When the National Hockey League lockout ended on Sunday, Jan. 6, many Boston Bruins fans exulted. Following Saturday's 3-1 win over the rival New York Rangers, they were likely over the moon. Left wings Milan Lucic and Daniel Paille and defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored in the first, second and third periods, respectively, as Boston ran out to a comfortable win against a team it had lost to three out of four times last year. "We knew that [New York goalkeeper] Henrik Lundqvist is a great goalie," said center Patrice Bergeron, who assisted on Boychuk's goal.

Coach caps memorable year with special honor

Though Brandeis has had some great coaches over the years, it's safe to say that men's soccer coach Michael Coven-this year's National Soccer Coaches' Association of America Division III New England men's coach of the year-is one of a kind. This past year, Minchoff quarterbacked a defense that allowed just 16 goals in 22 games and made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Division III Tournament, the best run the program has experienced since 1985. "I am thrilled with what we accomplished this year," said Minchoff after the season had finished.

Men's Soccer Brief: Coven's Corner stands out for its school spirit

Last fall, the men's soccer team experienced a strong base of fan support during its run to the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference title. However, the creators of "Coven's Corner" took this level of spirit to a whole new level this season. "Coven's Corner," named after men's soccer coach Mike Coven, grew in numbers as the season progressed, went on to receive regional acclaim from the Boston Globe and witnessed the Judges' first NCAA Division III Tournament victories since 1984 with wins over Baruch College and Vassar College. The legend began this September at the lobby of the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

Judges advance after big wins

While popular throughout the world, soccer has often been criticized by Americans for its low-scoring nature. By beating Vassar College 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament last Sunday night, the No.

Making history: Teams head to NCAAs

After finishing their seasons last November, the men's and women's soccer teams had very uncertain fates. Led by veteran coach Michael Coven, the men's squad finished 12-5-1 and won the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.
