Team adds to winning streak on Midwest trip

The women's basketball squad went on the road this past weekend, looking to continue a recent winning streak against Midwest opponents. The Judges did so, winning both of their games this past weekend against University Athletic Association opponents, defeating Carnegie Mellon University 58-55 on Sunday and Case Western Reserve University 63-58 on Friday. With the victories, the Judges improve to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in UAA play, climbing into a tie for fourth-place in the conference. The Judges extended their win streak on Sunday to four victories in a row, cobbling together their longest streak since the 2009 to 2010 season and matching their win total from last year. The game featured 20 lead changes and, additionally, the largest lead by either team was seven points.


Baseball Hall of Fame welcomes three new inductees amid the troubling legacy of the steroid era

Starting pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, as well as designated hitter Frank Thomas, were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame last Wednesday in their first year of eligibility, leaving out second baseman Craig Biggio, catcher Mike Piazza, and the notorious corps of steroid-era players that include sluggers such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa.Maddux received 97.2 percent of the 571 ballots cast by the senior members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America-far surpassing the 75 percent needed for induction.

Team hoping to make UAA mark

As the women's basketball squad begins its season on Friday, coach Carol Simon, returning to lead Brandeis in her 27th season, stressed that results matter less to her than the team's performance on a given day. "We're not really looking at the outcomes right now, we're going by the process and taking it day-by-day," Simon said given that the team is still in its early stages of practice.


Squad endures grueling defeats

The volleyball squad lost their three matches this past weekend at the Smith College Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational, falling to 9-20 on the season.


Team finds form with consecutive close wins

The women's soccer team went 2-0 this past week, securing close 1-0 victories in its opening University Athletic Association game against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday and visiting Smith College last Tuesday. With the victories, the squad improved to 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in UAA play. The Judges came in to the Smith game having lost two straight road matches and two of three overall.
