The Simpsons have come to Boston with a resounding “D’oh!” With its Oct. 9 episode, “The Town,” the longstanding animated sitcom parodies all things Boston, including the city’s lively higher education system.

In the episode, Bart Simpson idealizes Boston culture, basing his expectations off of the Southie gangs of “The Departed.” However, Bart soon realizes that Boston is a city deeply rooted in culture and higher education. As a result, he flees from nightmarish images of Emerson College, Northeastern University and, yes, Brandeis University’s iconic Usen Castle.

Elsewhere in television, Modern Family also dropped a reference to the University, with guest star Martin Short joking, “boom, just put another grandkid through Brandeis” in reference to making a particularly large sale. Notably, the University’s undergraduate tuition experienced a 3.9 percent hike from last semester, making it the 37th most expensive college in the United States, according to CBS MoneyWatch.
