Guard Hannah Cain ’15 of the women’s basketball team was selected to participate in the 2015 New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Game last Tuesday night. 

The captain and only senior on the team was also named to the All-University Athletic Association second team this past regular season. 

The award was the second of her collegiate career, after she previously earned the achievement in her sophomore season.

Cain was the all-around leader for the Judges this season. She led the team in scoring with a nearly double-figure average of 9.9 points a game. She was also the team leader in assists, with 2.4 per game, and steals, at a rate of 1.6 a game. 

Even though she plays at the guard position, she placed third on the team in rebounding while she corralled 4.7 boards per contest. 

Cain was particularly strong in conference play, where she averaged 5.2 rebounds against UAA opponents. 

She scored in double figures for the Judges in 16 contests, including an exceptional performance against Salve Regina University on Nov. 16. 

In that game, Cain posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the team’s dominant victory. 

After that game, the second contest of the season, Cain was named to the Brandeis Invitational All-Tournament team. 

Cain’s best individual result during conference play came against the University of Rochester on Feb. 8. In the game, Cain scored a career-high of 18 points in a 60-52 win over the  Rochester Yellowjackets. 

Another impressive performance for Cain came in a contest against conference rival Carnegie Mellon University.During the game, Cain scored 12 points while adding seven rebounds and two assists.

Cain started in 27 of the Judges’ 28 contests this season. For the three seasons in which she was healthy and able to play, Cain started for the team for an impressive 77 of 78 contests. Cain missed the entirety of her junior season due to an unfortunate knee injury.  

Cain ended her collegiate career by bringing home a championship in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. During the tournament, Cain averaged 12.3 points and 2.7 assists while earning Most Outstanding Player honors. 

On the way to the ECAC championship, the Judges, ranked as the No. 6 seed, knocked off the top three seeds in the tournament. 

The squad defeated #3 Roger Williams University, 63-44; #2 Emmanuel College, 91-78 and #1 Westfield State University, 75-65 in overtime.

The All-Star game will be held at Ainsworth Gymnasium at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. on Mar. 28.
