Whether or not you are a fan of Top 40 radio, it’s pretty remarkable that in today’s digital culture, we still have radio stations that the majority of people tune in to on a regular basis. Yes, many of us stream our favorite stations on the Internet now, but the concept of the radio station still seems to be the same.

The radio industry is so successful that there are two major music concerts featuring top radio acts: the two-day iHeartRadio Music Festival and the touring Jingle Ball concert.

iHeartRadio is an online radio platform with its own station and music discovery system (like Pandora) that also streams live radio stations.

The platform started its music festival in September 2011 in Las Vegas and added a second “Village Stage” in addition to its main lineup in 2013. The main lineup includes mainstream favorites and the Village features up-and-coming and lesser-known artists.

This year, rock bands Coldplay and Bastille were featured at the main stage, while Nico & Vinz, which have a current hit with “Am I Wrong,” played in the Village along with country newcomer Kacey Musgraves and rapper Childish Gambino. The 2015 lineup has only been partially revealed and will include Bruno Mars, Muse and Maroon 5.

Can’t make it to the festival? Each year’s concert is broadcast on television network The CW, and the recording can be found on its website shortly after.

Jingle Ball is an annual concert in December started by Los Angeles-based radio station KIIS-FM in 2000. The lineup shifts year to year as musical acts come and go. The original lineup at the first concert consisted of JoJo, Third Eye Blind, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, Macy Gray and 98 Degrees.

This year, country-pop crossover singer Taylor Swift, who currently has two singles off of her fifth album on the iTunes Top ten, joins British crooner Sam Smith and Australian boy band, 5 Seconds of Summer.

Producer, rapper and singer extraordinaire Pharrel is also performing, along with newcomer Meghan Trainor, whose number-one hit “All About That Bass,” might just be the song of the year.

This is singer Ariana Grande’s second year performing at Jingle Ball, but rapper Iggy Azalea is performing for the first time at the concert. Some of these acts might be one hit wonders, or some might be headliners next year as well.

If Jingle Ball can be described with one word, it’s “current.” Only the most popular artists each year are featured. If an artist is having an off year, they aren’t featured.

While the Los Angeles Jingle Ball is the original, there are also other Jingle Ball concerts produced by KIIS-FM’s sister stations, such as Z100 in New York City, Kiss 108 in Boston and Power 96.1 in Atlanta. The lineups vary city to city due to availability (only New York and California get Taylor Swift), but the concept is the same.

If you missed the iHeartRadio festival, Jingle Ball is rolling into Boston on Dec. 14.

Even if neither show is in your immediate future, the stations release exclusive content and giveaways, so you can still be part of the action.
